Randy is founder and CEO of VA Angels, one of Canada’s most active angel groups: 140 members have funded 190 companies for over $55m, including deals in the US, UK, and Africa. Building this Angel platform led Mr Thompson to be named Startup Canada’s investor of the year for 2015 and a finalist for the same award the two years previous.

In order to support the number of initiatives and investors, Randy has started 5 funds (VA Angels Fund I & II, Lat18 Capital, and two debt funds) an Entrepreneur Base camp program (delivered in 3 countries and 32 centres), an International Angel Mentoring entity working in 5 countries, and an M&A firm focused on the group’s exits.

He has invested in 26 companies with 4 exits, and has been working in the startup venture space for 20 years. Early in his career he founded Alberta SuperNet and worked as a venture capital advisor to the Province of Alberta. Currently he is building Generus Marketing Solutions, a platform for Not4Profits and merchants to develop relationships through ecommerce.
