Franchise Law 101: Everything You Wanted to Know About Franchising will cover the basics of franchising at a beginner, introductory level. Our goal is to ensure that attendees have the necessary information required to explore the world of franchising with their eyes wide open. The tools provided will help potential future franchisees take note of any red flags that may appear. We will cover what qualifies as a franchise and what does not qualify as a franchise, and the chief characteristics of a franchise.
Attendees will learn how a franchise differs from a regular business and a few basics on how Alberta Law applies to franchises. The requirements of a franchisor disclosure and the steps involved in buying a franchise will also be discussed. The attendee will leave with a better understanding and knowledge base of what to look for when exploring franchise options, how to better protect themselves and how to ensure the small business owner is not on the losing side of the deal.
